Trekking in the Land of Volcanoes

Day 1: The Desolacion Trail, Osorno Volcano & Lake Llanquihue

Your adventure kicks off in the charming town of Puerto Varas, where you'll gather for a brief rundown of the adventure that lies ahead, guided by an expert local team.

A scenic 90-minute drive ushers you to the entrance of Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park and the start of the Desolación Trail. Here, you embark on a 14-kilometre journey across the northern slopes of the strikingly symmetrical Osorno Volcano. Prepare to be enchanted by a diverse tapestry of landscapes—from lush temperate rainforests and dramatic volcanic terrains to expansive, steppe-like plateaus offering awe-inspiring views of glistening lakes and snow-dusted peaks.

Your day concludes by the serene shores of Lake Todos Los Santos, where your cosy lodge at Petrohué awaits—with a briefing delicious dinner.

Day 2: Lakes Todos Los Santos - El Callao; Puntiagudo Volcano Valley

After a hearty breakfast, you'll walk to the Petrohué dock where your host awaits to guide you on a 1 hour and 20-minute boat journey to the valley's edge, marking the beginning of your trekking.

Today, you will spend about 5-6 hours hiking through a varied landscape of grasslands, farms, and rainforests, crossing rivers, suspended bridges, and waterfalls along the way. By around 4pm, you'll arrive in El Callao, where you'll spend the night at a charming local family lodge.

A highlight of this itinerary is staying at homesteads and having the chance to interact with your local hosts; learning about their traditional way of living in this beautiful and isolated region.

Accommodation: Overnight in the Valley of El Callao at a family home mountain shelter

Day 3: Puntiagudo Volcano Valley; Lake Rupanco and Casablanca Volcano

Today, you will reach Lake Rupanco after an 18 km hike with an ascent of 400 meters before descending 715 meters to reach the shore of the lake.

This is the most demanding hiking day of the journey, but this challenge is richly rewarded with breathtaking landscapes and a hearty, homemade family dinner awaiting you at your hostess's home.

Day 4: Lake Rupanco Hot Springs and Return to Puerto Varas

Your final day begins with an enchanting boat journey from the village dock, lasting about 30 minutes, taking you directly to the sandy shores of Lake Rupanco. Here, you'll dig and create your own hot spring pools, offering a unique and relaxing experience amid spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Lunch will be served at Claudia’s home, providing a delightful and local conclusion to your adventures. This is a perfect moment to celebrate the journey you've embarked upon before you start your return to Puerto Varas.
