About Lago Grey (Grey Glacier)
The Grey Glacier is one of Torres del Paine's most spectacular, and Lago Grey that it fills it, one of its most beautiful. It lies in the west of Torres del Paine National Park and can be seen in many different ways.
Those trekking the Full Circuit of Torres del Paine are presented with an incredible view from above of the Grey Glacier as they cross the Paso John Garner
The western leg of the W Circuit takes you along its Eastern shore all the way up to the glacier itself
Those looking for a less demanding way to see the lake and glacier can enjoy a boat trip that sails from the southern shore right up to the glacier itself. Alternatively the hour long walk from Guarderia Lago Grey along the 'beach' on the southern shore offers wonderful views of the lake and the opportunity to come close to Grey's icebergs.
Refugio Grey and Camping Grey are popular spots, on the north western edge, to enjoy the lake and glacier. However you need to hike a few kilometres further north to get the best views of the glacier. Refugio Grey is a 3-4 hour hike from Paine Grande Lodge.
You used to be able to IceHike on Glacier Grey but the parks authority CONAF have withdrawn their concession so, for now, this is no longer possible. An alternative IceHiking option in the area might be the Balmaceda Glacier.
