About Glaciar Grande & Laguna Torre (Cerro & Glacier Torre Lookout)
The huge Glaciar Grande is one of the many glaciers in Los Glaciares National Park to come down from the Southern Patagonian Ice Cap. It's a pretty easily accessible glacier, which runs into the pale Laguna Torre at its bottom.
The trek up to the glacier from El Chalten is an enjoyable one which leads you along the pictureseque Rio Fitz Roy, which, like the famous Mount Fitz Roy, is named after the captain of the HMS Beagle sailed the ship that took Charles Darwin on his famous voyage to Patagonia.
It's possible to don a pair of crampons and ice hike on this impressive glacier but only with a guide. From here you'll have spectacular views to the north of the long glacial tongue of Glacier Torre and Cerro Torre standing at some 3,102 metres.
