Operator's Itinerary
Day 1: El Calafate Airport - El Calafate
You will be greeted in the El Calafate airport (FTE) and taken directly to the city. The drive is approximately 30 minutes through the Patagonian Pampas. You will be taken to your accomodation and have some time to freshen up. After a bit of a rest or some time exploring the town, you will meet again with your guide for dinner.
Day 2: Perito Moreno Glacier - El Calafate
After a nice breakfast you will board a van heading towards Perito Moreno Lookout. As you arrrive at the lookout you will be able to orient yourself in front of the enormous ice wall. During the summer the glacier often calves and if you are lucky you will be able to observe this while at the glacier. You will also take a short cruise in front of the glacier in order to get a closer look. In the evening you will return to the city, have dinner, and spend the night.
Day 3: El Calafate - El Chalten
Today you will wake early and prepare for the first bus to El Chalten. The trip is approximately three hours by bus and you will arrive before lunch. After arriving in the small town you will get aquainted with your new accomodation and then you and your guide will leave for lunch. The rest of the afternoon will be for exploration of the city. However, you should take some time to visit the park ranger station in the afternoon and also take a short 45 minute hike to the Condor´s Lookout. You will meet with your guide for dinner and recieve instructions for your hike the next day.
Day 4: El Chalten - Cerro Torre Lookout
You will begin walking from your hostel until you reach a path that borders Fitz Roy River. The path leads you along plains, valleys and slightly uneven walkways. You will reach a lookout after approximately three hours and be able to see a spectacular valley and the looming Cerro Torre. As you continue you will hike through a Lenga forest, until you finally reach a moraine and the Torre Lagoon. From here on a clear day you can see the Torre, Grande, and Adela Glaciers at the foot of Cerro Torre. You will spend time here enjoying the view. Later we will return to El Chalten on the same path, have dinner and get some rest in order to be prepared for the next day.
Day 5: El Chalten - Fitz Roy Lookout
Today you will have breakfast again in your hostel. Soon after, a van will take you to El Pilar Hotel, where the trailhead begins. The ride is approximately 30 minutes with the view of Rio de Las Vueltas along the way. You will reach the trail head and begin your hike along Rio Blanco. You will pass through an amazing forest where you might see the Carpintero Woodpecker. After about an hour you will reach a spectacular lookout; you can see Piedras Blancas Lake and Glacier. The view is absolutely breath-taking and you will need to stop for a few pictures before continuing on your way. After another hour you will finally reach camp Poicenot, here the views will begin to change and you will start your climb up the side of a hill and along the moraine that will finally take you to Los Tres Lake. The hike is steep and will take approximately one more hour. You will have lots of time to admire the various peaks and later return to El Chalten walking down another trail that leads directly into the city. It will take approximately four hours to return to the small town for a shower, dinner and a good night´s rest.
Day 6: Viedma Ice Hike - El Calafate
In the morning a van will pick you up and take you towards Viedma Lake, you will enjoy a cruise across the lake until you arrive at the foot of the glacier. You will be given instruction on how to hike on the glacier, and also be given the necessary gear. Your guides will help you to get prepared and you will spend a few hours hiking ontop of Glacier Viedma. After the hike, you will return back to the boat, and cross the lake to return to your van and be taken back to El Chalten in time to gather your things and get a quick bite to eat. You will board the 6pm bus and head back to El Calafate to spend the night. You will arrive in El Calafate in time for a late dinner and a good night´s rest.
Day 7: El Calafate - Puerto Natales
Early in the morning you will take another bus to Puerto Natales. The trip is approximately 5 hours and you will arrive in the town for a late lunch. You will have the afternoon to explore the town and finish up any last minute preparations before leaving the next morning for a five-day hike.
Day 8: Puerto Natales – Camp Chileno
After an early breakfast, you and your guide will leave Puerto Natales heading towards Torres del Paine National Park. After arriving in the park you will begin to casually walk up Almirante Nieto, a mountain that takes you to an incredible view of Lake Nordenskjold and the Asencio Valley. You and your guide will arrive at Camp Chileno a few hours after lunch. This is where you will be spending the night, so your guide will set up your tents and put your backpacks inside, before continuing on the hike. After a short rest in Chileno you will hike one hour through a dense Lenga forest. After leaving the forest, you will approach a moraine and climb to see the amazing granite peaks known as the Torres. After a bit of time admiring the view you will return back to Chileno to sleep and have dinner.
Day 9: Camp Chileno - Camp Cuernos
In the morning you will have breakfast and then prepare to hike again. You will leave Camp Chileno and walk for four hours towards Camp Cuernos, which is located on the coast of Lake Nordenskjold and the foot of the impressive Cuernos of Paine. Along the way you will border Almirante Nieto and pass by Lake Nordenskjold. You will have a few rivers to cross by hopping across rocks and also catch views of glaciers upon the mountain tops that are hovering over you. Finally you see the Cuernos! They are monsterous peaks, you will spend the night at the foot of them after a breath-taking journey.
Day 10: French Valley - Camp
Paine Grande Shortly after breakfast you will begin hiking towards Camp Italiano. This camp is just two easy hours away. You will trek accross a windy beach and finally escape into the valley and find that the wind is a little calmer. After two hours of hiking you and your guide will leave your backpack at Camp Italiano and continue into the French Valley with just a small day-pack. You will hike across a moraine and through a forest until you come finally come to a clearing. Here you will be blown away both by the wind and by the spectacular views of Lake Nordenskjold, Skottberg and Pehoe behind you, the shocking hanging glacier called the French Glacier just ahead of you and by many of the peaks that are the reason why this park has become famous. After leaving the lookout you will return to gather your backpacks and continue to Camp Paine Grande where you will spend the night.
Day 11:Camp Paine Grande - Camp Grey
After a restful nights sleep and an energizing breakfast you will be ready to hike again. Today you will have a short four hours through a small forest and then along Lake Grey. Most days this section of the park is also windy, because of the openess provided by Lake Grey, Glacier Grey and the Southern Ice Field. After about two hours of hiking you will get your first peaks of Glacier Grey and be stunned. You will continue on two more hours until arriving at Camp Grey, leave your things and then continue ten more minutes until you arrive at the beach where you will have a gorgeous view of the glacier. You will arrive here just after lunch, leaving you plenty of time to admire the scenery.
Day 12: Navigation for Lake – Puerto Natales
After four days hiking on the infamous "W" in Torres del Paine you will have just a morning left to relax, take more pictures or go for another short hike. You will board the Grey II boat in the afternoon. You will enjoy your afternoon by admiring the glacier from upclose and take remarkable photographs of the surroundings. Just after 18:00 hrs you will begin your journey towards Puerto Natales and arrive in time for a late dinner and a good nights rest.
Day 13: Puerto Natales – El Calafate / Punta Arenas
Today you will take a transfer back to El Calafate or onwards to Punta Arenas. You will arrive in El Calafate at approximately 14.00 hrs, or in Punta Arenas at 11:00 hrs. You will say goodbye to our staff and continue your journey home or to your next destination!
