Self-Drive the North

Argentina: Landscapes, Culture, Cuisine; 17 nights

Day 1: As soon as you arrive into Buenos Aires you will take a domestic flight to the northern city of Salta where a local guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy the colonial centre of the city.

Accomodation: Hotel del Virrey, Salta

Day 2: Early start driving from Salta to Cafayate (186km paved road). The first part goes along the fertile Lerma Valley where there is the possibility to see tobacco plantations, and several other agricultural activities passing through the towns of  Cerrillos, La Merced and El Carril. Your hotel for the evening is surrounded by vineyards where you will be able to do some tasting.

Day 3: Leave from Cafayate by National Route No 40 towards the city of Cachi. Along the way we recommend you visit the lunar landscape of Quebrada de las Flechas, the beautiful Church and vicuna reserve at Molinos. Have the afternoon at leisure in Cachi to enjoy this picturesque village, its main square, museum and church.

Day 4: Full day in Cachi with a trek in the magnificent Quebrada de las Conchas. An English speaking guide will take you to the most beautiful places of this impressive natural wonder.

Day 5: Drive from Cachi to Salta down the amazing Obispo Gorge, probably the most stunning view for people who love mountain roads, descending approximately 1000 meters to the Lerma Valley (157 km). Take National Route No 40 until  meeting Provincial Route No 33, a colorful and picturesque road. By early evening you will arrive into Salta where you will leave your hire car. Spend one more evening enjoying this delightful city.

The Lake District

Day 6: Take an early flight back to Buenos Aires and then another connection down to the town of Bariloche in northern Patagonia. From the airport you will be taken to your lakeside Estancia, surrounded by mountains and native forests.

Day 7 & 8: During your stay at the estancia you can head out into the mountains on horseback, hike deep into the valleys straight from your front door or kayak the waters of the surrounding lakes.

Estancias and Glaciers

Day 9: Take a morning flight to El Calafate in southern patagonia, the gateway to the Los Glaciares National Park. Spend your afternoon visiting the magnificent Perito Moreno glacier. After time spent visiting the walkways in front of the glacier, you will be transferred to near by estancia, you're home for the coming days.

Day 10 & 11: As a working ranch you can choose to observe the gauchos in their work, head out with them on horseback to round up sheep or hike out to remote, untouched locations.

Tierra del Fuego

Day 12: Transfer to the airport and take a short, 1 hour flight down to Ushuaia - the southern most city in the world. Spend the afternoon exploring this quirky city with many museums and busy passenger port. Your hotel for your 3 night stay is step high up in the mountains with unrivaled views of the surrounding channels and jagged peaks.

Day 13:  Hike straight from your hotel deep into the wild mountains of Tierra del Fuego. Choose from a number of different trails that take you to view points to gain incredible views down onto the Beagle Channel and surrounding peaks.

Day 14: Take a cruise down the Beagle Channel to see the sea lions, albatross and penguins that inhabit the island that dot the channel. A visit to Ushuaia is not complete without sampling its delicious offerings of king crab - on offer in one of the many local restaurants.

Buenos Aires

Day 15: Transfer to the airport and take a short, 1 hour flight down to Ushuaia - the southern most city in the world. Spend the afternoon exploring this quirky city with many museums and busy passenger port. Your hotel for your 3 night stay is step high up in the mountains with unrivalled views of the surrounding channels and jagged peaks.

Day 16 & 17: Spend 2 days exploring this incredible, diverse and captivating city. See the Pink Palace where Evita spoke to her masses, visit art galleries, the stunning Opera House or simply relax and sip Malbec at one of the many street side cafes as you watch the world go by.

Accommodation: Dandi Royal, all three nights

Day 18: Transfer to the airport to catch your return flight home
