Operator's Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Puerto Natales; Trek to Weber Bridge; Serrano Camp

A private transfer will pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Natales and take you to Estancia Lazo, a 13,000 hectare cattle ranch founded over a century ago and still operating today. This lies on the shore of Laguna Verde, beneath striking views of the Paine Massif.

From here we’ll start our trek into the Torres del Paine National Park. The trail is generally as it passes through stretches of native beech and coihue forests which are teeming with wildlife. Watch out for condors and caranchos circling the skies; guanacos grazing on the hills; and woodpeckers, owls, and lesser-known species such as the cachaña (Austral parakeet) peeking out from the trees.

We’ll reach Honda Lagoon and then make our way to Lake Toro Lake viewpoint (559m), where we'll soak up fantastic panoramic views of the Grey, Serrano and Paine rivers, Serrano Valley, Mt Balmaceda and the Geike and Tyndall glaciers. We then start our descent to the Weber Bridge, where a 20min transfer will take us to Serrano Camp.

Length of transfer: 2hrs

Length of hike: 5hrs, 13 km

Meals: Picnic lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Serrano Camp

Day 2: Ride to Glacier Tyndall Glacier lookout; Serrano Camp

Today we'll saddle up and ride to an unexplored valley at the border of Torres del Paine National Park. The ride will take us across rivers and through landscapes of lakes and wetlands, while views of the Paine Massif and the glaciers of the Southern Patagonian Icefield shift alongside us.

At the Glacier Tyndall lookout we’ll stop for a picnic lunch and, once rested, return to Serrano Camp via a different trail along the shore of the Serrano River and past the waterfall of the same name.

Length of ride: 6hrs slow riding, trotting and cantering

Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Serrano Camp

Day 3: Trek to the French Valley; Serrano Camp

Today’s activity is a trek to the French Valley – a spectacular natural basin surrounded by peaks and hanging glaciers. We’ll start with a short transfer to Lake Pehoe and cross it by catamaran.

At the entrance to the French Valley – a glacial moraine surrounded by peaks and hanging glaciers – we’ll scramble over huge boulders and catch our first sight of the hanging glacier atop the valley.

From here we ascend for an hour through a dreamlike Japanese garden landscape before arriving at the French Valley viewpoint (the 'Plateau'). Your reward is a stunning bird’s eye view of granite peaks and hanging glaciers. On one side is the French Glacier and Paine Grande (3050m); while on the other, La Espada, La Hoja, La Máscara and the main and north 'horns' of Los Cuernos arch upwards. In the upper section of the valley, Mt Catedral and Mt Fortaleza loom like turrets above the landscape. We'll have plenty of time to rest and have lunch at the viewpoint, surrounded by these imposing peaks and open skies.

Our descent is via the same path. We’ll take the catamaran back across Lake Pehoe and then a 35min private transfer back to Serrano Camp

Length of transfer: 30mins

Length of boat trip: 35mins

Length of hike: 7-8hrs, 17km

Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Serrano Camp

Day 4: Kayaking on Lake Grey; Serrano Camp

We'll have an early breakfast before our transfer to Lake Grey to meet our kayaking guide. Here,  we'll have a briefing about safety and paddling techniques with views of Paine Grande and Grey Glacier as the backdrop.

We’ll paddle Lake Grey for around 2hrs, inspecting the icebergs that have calved from the glacier and been carved into natural ice sculptures by the wind and sun. While paddling, take time to look around: the granite peaks of Paine Grande, Cordon Olguín and Los Cuernos interplay beautifully with the water’s multiple shades of turquoise.

From Lake Grey we’ll begin our trip along the Grey River, which meanders through canyons with turbulent rapids and lined by steep rock walls. We’ll paddle for 25km down the Grey River to the point where it joins the Serrano River. After 4-5hrs of paddling we’ll arrive back at Serrano Camp ready to relax and prepare for dinner.

Length of transfer: 30mins

Length of kayaking: 4-5hrs, 25km

Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner

Accommodation: Serrano Camp

Day 5: Trek to Las Torres (The Towers) lookout; Puerto Natales

Our last day starts with a transfer across the National Park to the starting point for the trek to the Towers. An initial ascent follows the Ascencio River into the Ascencio Valley. At a lookout point, about an hour into the trek, we’ll pause to take in the beauty of the valley's rich beech forests, glaciers and waterfalls.

After this point the path continues climbing through lush beech forests before ascending a gigantic terminal moraine (the ridge formed at a glacier’s end point). It's here, at an altitude of 900m, where we’ll be rewarded by the stunning sight of Las Torres and stay a while to soak up the amazing views, take photos and have lunch.

We'll then retrace our steps back to the start point where a private transfer will take you back to Puerto Natales.

Length of transfer: 1.5hrs

Length of hike: 8-10hrs

Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch

Jorge and Carlos - our guide and driver. Everyday was memorable. Spectacular views, scenery, sunrise/sunsets, and unbelievable winds. Our final day was probably the most memorable as Jorge altered our itinerary making it a really enjoyable day - The Towers + Lago Azul then culminating with an up close sighting of two Puma cubs.
